How we make money

Safe Space Connect takes a 15% platform fee on completed bookings. That covers identity and background verification, the matching and review work, and the trust and safety operations that keep every family and sitter on the platform protected. There is no monthly subscription, no charge to browse, and no charge for sitters to list.

Stripe (our payment processor) also charges its standard processing fee per transaction. Stripe takes that fee directly from the sitter's payout, so the sitter's take-home is the booking total minus our 15% platform fee minus Stripe's processing fee.

Sitters cover their own background check fee at the time of submission. The fee covers the cost of running the check through Checkr, our verification partner.

Cancellation and refunds

Plans change. Here is exactly what happens depending on when you cancel.

More than 24 hours before start

Full refund

You get the full amount back to your card. The sitter is released to take other bookings in that window.

Within 24 hours of start

50% refund

Half of the booking total is refunded. The other half goes to the sitter to compensate for the lost time slot.

After the booking has started

No refund

The booking is marked cancelled but the sitter is paid in full for the time they had reserved.

If the sitter declines or cancels, you always get a full refund regardless of timing. Refunds typically appear on your card within 5 to 10 business days.
