Our Safety Standards

Background Checks Required

Every sitter must complete a background check through Checkr before their profile goes live. This includes criminal history, identity verification, and sex offender registry checks. No exceptions, no shortcuts.

Manual Profile Approval

Our team personally reviews every sitter application before it is published. We do not approve everyone who applies, and that is by design.

Specialized Experience Verified

Sitters must demonstrate meaningful, hands-on experience with neurodivergent populations, not just check a box. We look for real knowledge of ASD, ADHD, sensory processing, behavior support, AAC, and related areas.

On-Platform Bookings

All bookings and payments must be completed through Safe Space Connect. Off-platform arrangements remove all protections for both families and sitters. This policy is strictly enforced.

Conduct Standards Enforced

All users, sitters and families alike, must adhere to our community conduct standards. Violations are investigated and may result in removal from the platform. Safety is non-negotiable.

Our Vetting Process

Sitter Submits Application

Applicants complete a detailed profile including their neurodivergent care experience, certifications, and availability.

Background Check Initiated

A background check is initiated through Checkr, covering criminal history, identity, and sex offender registry.

Profile Manually Reviewed

Our team reviews every application personally, verifying experience, credentials, and overall fit before any approval.

Approved Sitters Listed

Only sitters who pass all checks and meet our standards are published on the platform and visible to families.

Booking & Cancellation Policy

Platform fee

Safe Space Connect takes a 15% fee on completed bookings. There are no monthly subscriptions, no charge to browse, and no charge for sitters to list.

Minimum booking

Bookings must start at least 1 hour in the future and run at least 1 hour long. This gives sitters time to prepare.

Cancellation by family

More than 24 hours before the booking starts: full refund. Within 24 hours: 50% refund (the platform reverses half the sitter payout; the platform fee is kept on the non-refunded half). After the start time: no refund, but the booking is marked cancelled.

Decline by sitter

If a sitter declines a paid booking, the family is fully refunded and the sitter receives no funds for that booking.

Important Policy Reminder

Safe Space Connect is a technology marketplace. We connect families and sitters but are not a staffing agency and do not employ caregivers. All bookings must occur on-platform.
